The IBM 16/4 Token-Ring PCI Management Adapter offers outstanding performance, low power consumption, and proven reliability. The PCI management adapter has also been developed and tested to work in IBM and non-IBM desktop and server PC systems. It conforms to the PCI 2.2 bus standard and IEEE 802.5 Token-Ring standard, and supports all the latest versions of all major operating environments. The 16/4 Token-Ring PCI Management Adapter supports the PCI Hot Plug and Redundant NIC Quick Failover, which enhances server network reliability and maintainability.

The PCI Management Adapter supports both IBM Wake on LAN (wakes a machine from a cold power-off state using a magic packet) and Microsoft OnNow (ACPI). For these features to work, the adapter must be installed in a PCI 2.2-compliant machine. This means that the machine must implement the PCI bus PME pin, and provide 3 V auxiliary through the PCI connector. The PCI Management Adapter provides no extra connectors for hooking up Wake on LAN through separate Wake on LAN cables. Once a machine is awakened remotely through Wake on LAN, the machine is free to boot up whatever operating system is installed on the hard drive.
