Switch 8800 External PoE Power Rack - Provides Supplemental DC Power for Power over Ethernet (PoE)
The 3Com Switch 8800 PoE Power Rack provides an external source of additional DC power—up to 4,500 Watts per system—to the Switch 8800 to enable Power over Ethernet (PoE). With the addition of this system and PoE-capable interface modules, any Switch 8800 is easily "field-upgradeable" to support PoE, allowing the switch to provide both power and data connectivity to PoE-enabled network devices.
The PoE Power rack can contain up to three PoE power supplies, ordered separately, to deliver maximum available power of approximately 4,500 Watts. At a maximum of 15.4 Watts per port (defined in the IEEE 802.3af standard for PoE), up to 288 ports can be powered in the Switch 8800, with ports distributed among any PoE capable modules in the system. At the more typical power level of 7.7 Watts used by many IP phones, up to 576 ports can be supported.
