Network demands have evolved due to requirements that include reliability, extended temperature, a high level of performance, and timely indicators when faults occur on a network. Those indicators can be as simple as an LED extinguishing on an unmanaged switch, to a Trap notification from a managed switch. The ESWGP series of managed switches offers robust features for networks relying on management and monitoring of Ethernet equipment. A significant feature that the switches offer is Power over Ethernet (PoE). The ESWGP switches provide PoE+ injection on all copper ports, while still ensuring full data throughput on each port. All three managed switches offer multiple gigabit copper and SFP-based fiber ports. The switches support any gigabit MSA-compliant SFP. LEDs support link status for the copper and SFP ports, PoE+ status, Power and Fault Relay.
A new challenge facing network administrators is the availability of a power source. Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a hardware feature available on an RJ-45 copper port of an Ethernet device that can inject power into a PD (Power Draw) device. For the ESWGP series of switches, each copper port is capable of not only offering Ethernet connectivity, but also PoE+ injection. PoE+ offers up to 30W of power per port, and does not interfere with the data path on the port. Based on the 802.3at standard, it allows the end user to connect a PD device, such as a PTZ camera, to power it over the copper cabling when an available power outlet is not available. The advantage of PoE+ is that if a PD device requires less power, say 15.4W, the PoE+ port will only provide the power necessary; over-current and PD damage is not a consideration. Using a PoE+ port to provide simple Ethernet connectivity is still an option as well.
All switches offer an extended temperature range of -40C to +85C. The extended temperature and the ability to sustain shock, vibration and freefall make this product line suitable for harsh environments; it also meets IP30 rating for its metal enclosure. Harsh environments require Ethernet devices to perform beyond the standard to C. Ethernet connectivity is no longer installed in just controlled environs.
WHEN COMPACT, MULTIPORT SWITCHES ARE A GOOD CHOICE
The managed switch product line is the latest addition to the recently released unmanaged ESWP and ESWGP switches. Network folks don’t always need a 24 or 48 port switch, and a 5, or a range of up to a k12 port switch can be a cost-effective solution. Offering Power over Ethernet and redundant VDC power inputs, the switches offer plug and play copper ports and an SFP port for ease of installation. Each copper port supports PoE+, and no user intervention is necessary for providing the required amount of power to a device.
