First, the tap replicates the full-duplex signal from the network. Then, it sends one signal back to the network and the other signal to a monitoring device. Connect a LAN analyzer to the monitor ports. The LAN analyzer can then monitor traffic between the two devices. The tap even maintains network continuity whether or not it's connected to an analyzer.
