How SmartFilter for the Blue Coat Port 80 Security Appliance works
Organizational policy makers simply point and click their Web access policies into the Port 80 Security Appliance. All Web page requests are then checked against this policy using the SmartFilter Control List of pre-categorized Web page URLs (gambling, sex, MP3 download, etc.) stored locally on the Port 80 Security Appliance. Web page requests can be allowed, denied, or simply logged for later review by management in one of SmartFilter’s many useful reports.

The highly accurate SmartFilter Control List consists of millions of URLs, divided into 30
different content categories. Organizations can customize their locally stored SmartFilter Control List by adding categories and sites, or exempting sites from the standard list that is built and maintained by Secure Computing. The SmartFilter list-update-service offered by Blue Coat is an annual subscription available in one- or two-year terms. Ordering SmartFilter with Blue Coat is extremely easy, just add one additional line-item to the Blue Coat purchase order.
