RS-232 to Multi-mode Fiber Converter (ST Connector)
Canary’s CSC-4D9M1/CSC-4D9M2 (multi-mode) and CSC-4D9S1/CSC-4D9S2 (single-mode) family is designed specifically for linking RS-422/485 devices over fiber optic segments. They allow the direct connection of serial devices via a reliable fiber link that supports data rates up to 120 Kbps between host computers. This makes it an ideal solution for industrial process control, surveillance, and other remote access applications with RS-422/485 connectors. They are currently available only as standalone units.
Featuring a DIP switch enabled terminating resistor, the CSC-4D9M1 series of RS-232 to fiber media converters provide a solution for linking industrial equipment. Each unit provides cost-efficient distance transmission of extended distances ranging from 2,000 meters (multi-mode fiber) to 20km (single mode fiber). Together, with its simple setup and installation characteristics, each converter makes it easy to combine the advantages of fiber technology within a RS-422/485 copper-based network.
Cabling Flexibility – The CSC-4D9-M1 series enables network managers to install fiber cabling anywhere within the existing network environment without the removal, replacement or modification of the current copper based RS-422/485 infrastructure. In addition, they are capable of 4-wire operation in RS-485 mode.
Terminator DIP Switch – Simply use the DIP-switch to activate a terminating resistor - the CSC-4D9M1 instantly incorporates the illusion of an infinite line, thereby creating a true multi-drop network.
Cost-effective - By transparently facilitation the integration of the existing copper cabling with fiber optic cabling, the CSC-4D9M1 series represents a cost-effective solution for network planners eager to control costs when upgrading to fiber for linking serial devices to host computers.
Security - By linking over fiber, serial data communication devices spanning manufacturing intensive environments where electromagnetic and radio frequency interference is a major concern, data integrity is assured. Unauthorized access to data is reduced because of the nature of fiber optic cables making any comprise in them detectable.
Easy Implementation - The design of the CSC-4D9M1 series allows for straightforward 'plug-and-go' operation. Additionally, the compact form factor of each device translates into installation flexibility.
