Module VoIP-VPN Gateway for elmeg ICT
The VoIP-VPN Gateway module is the ideal supplement to the elmeg ICT systems. The module combines modern Internet telephony via Voice over IP (VoIP) with the secure data exchange over VPN.
2 slots for the extension modules M 4 DSP or M 8 DSP are integrated into the module. They additionally provide the VoIP-VPN gateway with digital, highly compressed voice channels for transition into the PSTN.
The VoIP/VPN gateway can also be integrated subsequently into existing elmeg ICT systems. An elmeg ICT unit which is equipped with the VoIP-VPN gateway is able to provide all basic network services and is, therefore, converted into a communications centre. In this case, the unit works as DHCP server, assigns IP addresses to all computers in the network and refers to the correct DHCP servers and gateways to the Internet. The Internet access as such is also provided by the PBX.
The security aspect—a vital topic in the age of viruses, worms, and weak points in operating systems—is also carefully dealt with by the VoIP-VPN gateway. A Stateful Inspection Firewall blocks any unauthorised access from outside and only admits connections which have explicitly been admitted by the administrator. These connections are identified by means of user-defined filters. Pre-configured filters for different client and server applications facilitate this task and make sure that all required Internet services are granted free access to the web.
The elmeg VoIP-VPN gateway supports SIP to address IP telephones in the LAN. Moreover, the VoIP module permits encrypted voice communication over IP, for instance if the subsidiary of the company is connected over the Internet to the elmeg ICT telecommunications unit. Here a VPN connection is set up between the sites or between the IP phone and the elmeg ICT unit. To integrate voice communication into the system at cost-effective rates, registration at various SIP carriers and providers is permitted.
