With its hardware RAID controller, its Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor, server-class motherboard, and Enterprise Class drives, it successfully stores and protects your business-critical data. The LaCie 12big Rack Network's multiple redundant fans and power supply can be replaced on the fly. In addition, the OS is stored on two RAID 1-protected drives for complete redundancy and easier maintenance. The 12big Rack Network's hardware RAID controller and its XOR engine also provide extremely fast RAID initialization and rebuild time, resulting in improved reliability.
The LaCie 12big Rack Network can serve as a file or block sharing appliance. As such, it supports both SMB and NFS file protocols, and it can also be used as an iSCSI target. With its two Ethernet ports and highest-grade components, the 12big Rack Network can successfully share critical files while also successfully functioning as a dedicated, direct-attached storage device that can be part of an IP SAN or an iSCSI target for applications that demand high bandwidth.
The LaCie 12big Rack Network is powered by Windows Storage Server 2008 Standard Edition. Among its many great features on the file level is Single Instance Storage (SIS), which provides data deduplication. With SIS, your organization can reduce the amount of storage it consumes by a considerable amount. With the help of data deduplication, you can get up to 40% of your existing disk space back, so you've got less data to back up, which in turn increases backup speeds. Best of all, the SIS technology is included in the default cost of the 12big Rack Network, it's easy to use, and it can dramatically increase your organization's storage efficiency.
At LaCie, we understand that the high performance that you need also has to come with scalability—the speeds that you demand shouldn't require a complete reshuffling of your IT infrastructure every time you're short on terabytes. Powered by a hardware RAID controller that pulls away resource-demanding RAID parity calculations from the processor, it can easily scale up without affecting performance and still guarantee the same level of data protection. To that end, should you run short on storage, you'd just need to plug a 12big Rack Serial through the Mini SAS expansion port to instantly double the number of drives—all while the XOR engine would manage the extra RAID calculations, the Xeon processor would successfully manage the increasing number of file serving requests, guaranteeing a successful scaleup in storage and users without a drop in performance.
