Increase your solar system astrophotography efficiency with the affordable Orion Newtonian Visual Centering Device for Astrophotography. Thanks to its visual centering capabilities and compatibility with Newtonian reflectors, this device is a must-have accessory for anyone who uses a reflector telescope for lunar and planetary astrophotography.
Newtonian reflector telescopes arguably offer one of the best "bang-for-the-buck" values in astronomy and astrophotography today. When compared to other telescope designs, most Newtonian reflectors provide much more aperture and light-gathering than similarly priced refractors and Cassegrain telescopes. One other difference between reflectors and other telescope models is focus travel - Newtonians usually have much less focus travel than their refractor and Cassegrain telescope counterparts, so they are not compatible with standard flip-mirror accessories which can greatly improve imaging efficiency by allowing visual centering of target objects. Until now, anyone used a Newtonian reflector telescopes for planetary or lunar astrophotography had to resort to the inefficient task of taking multiple exposures just to confirm whether or not a target object is centered and framed in a desirable manner. Now, with the low-profile Orion Newtonian Visual Centering Device, astrophotography hobbyists who prefer to use reflector telescopes can enjoy the same level of convenience and efficiency that a flip-mirror would provide!
The Orion Newtonian Visual Centering Device for Astrophotography features a small, insertable "pick-off" prism which diverts a small section of the light cone collected by a reflector telescope into a built-in eyepiece so you can visually frame and center your target solar system object. The device is compatible with 1.25" eyepieces and also features camera T-threads, a focuser to T-threads adapter, and a T-threads to filter threads step-down ring for direct, secure attachment of virtually any video, CCD, or CMOS astrophotography camera for quick and easy capture of exposures. Once you've visually centered the Moon or planet you wish to photograph, simply retract the prism/eyepiece combination from the Visual Centering Device body and you're ready to capture nicely framed exposures.
The Orion Newtonian Visual Centering Device requires 41mm (1.61") of back-focus, and is crafted from finely machined and anodized aluminum. The device weighs just 7.2 ounces (0.45 lbs.), so you can enjoy its efficient centering functionality while keeping your imaging train nice and light.
