Picking Up S.T.E.A.M.
The vinegar (an acid) and baking soda (a base) react to create carbon dioxide gas. This gas causes air pressure to build in the body of the rocket. When there is enough pressure, the contents are forced downward, propelling the rocket upward. That’s Newton’s Third Law of Motion at work -- for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction!
