DVD CD RW drive internal EIDE(ATAPI) The launch of the DRU-700A internal DVD Dual Drive with Double Layer (DL) shows Sony continuing to develop next generation technology. DVD+R DL (Double Layer) is a Write-Once media format with full compatibility with Dual Layer DVD-ROM, This affords 8.5GB or nearly double the storage capacity of normal DVDs (4.7GB).

The DRU-700A is compatible with most existing DVD Video and DVD-ROM players. Both layers can be accessed without the need to turn over the disc. The extra capacity can be used to play music, protect valuable data, share digital pictures and create home movies.

Double capacity means Double Recording time so 2 hours video on single layer expands to 4 hours on Double Layer. Double capacity also gives Double Quality Pictures or Movies since “Standard” Mode Quality moves to “Fine” Mode Quality without cutting recording time. Users can write and read both Single Layer and Double Layer Discs.
