3Com Embedded Firewall Policy Server Version 1.5 Policy Server Starter Pack (supports 10 client devices) The 3Com® Embedded Firewall Starter Policy Server is a ten-client version of the embedded firewall management software. It supports the same feature set as the 1,000-client version, and likewise is required to configure and manage 3Com Firewall PCI and PC Cards (sold separately). This cost-saving version lets IT staff test-run embedded firewalls on a smaller scale. It's also convenient for securing smaller networks.

The policy server and firewall-client cards extend centrally managed, hardware-enforced security to notebooks, desktops, and servers across the organization—inside and outside the network perimeter. Together, they deliver superior tamper-resistance that software-only firewalls can't match.

Firewall cards operate independently of their host systems and are practically impervious to Internet attacks, user actions, or malicious code. Equally important, they're configurable only through authenticated policy servers. In other words, even if a firewall-client system is invaded, it's practically impossible to exploit it as an attack launching pad.

This standards-based solution complements a defense-in-depth strategy and enhances other security products, including perimeter firewalls, antivirus software, and VPNs. It also delivers flexibility and scalability for growing networks. Once the policy server is installed, firewall cards can be added on a system-by-system basis when and where they're needed.
