3Com Switch 8800 Advanced Feature Software Version 3 provides additional capabilities for more sophisticated Enterprise networks.
Included in this add-on package:
BGP4 (Border Gateway Protocol version 4)
IS-IS (Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System)
MBGP (Multiprotocol BGP)
MPLS (Multi-protocol Label Switching)
VPLS (Virtual Private LAN Service)
SNMP v3, SSH v2 encryption and TACACS+ authentication are also included, or these can be separately downloaded for free at www.3com.com/software_8800.

BGP4
BGP4 is a dynamic routing protocol allowing autonomous systems to exchange reachability information.

IS-IS
IS-IS, a link state hierarchical routing protocol, is used with the ISO's Connectionless Network Protocol (CLNP).

MBGP
MBGP is an enhanced BGP that carries IP multicast routes. It enables the exchange of inter-domain multicast routing information.

MPLS
MPLS combines the connectionless control of IP with the connection-oriented forwarding of ATM, providing advantages to very large enterprise and Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs). MPLS functionality requires use of the "Advanced" Switch 8800 hardware modules.

VPLS
VPLS addresses the problem of networking multiple sites with full mesh "any-to-any" MPLS connectivity at Layer 2. When combined with Ethernet, VPLS transforms the MAN into a large Ethernet switch. VPLS functionality requires use of the VPLS module and any of the "Advanced" hardware modules.
