Overview

Adaptec maintains its IP Storage Leadership by delivering the Adaptec ASA-7211. The adapter is the first ASIC-based iSCSI HBA that fully offloads protocol processing from the host CPU. The card uses Adaptec's Storage Protocol Accelerator (SPA) ASIC which is the first ASIC-based TCP/IP offload Engine (TOE) that delivers data transfer rates up to 2 Gigabit per second (full duplex).

Adaptec SPA Technology

The Storage Protocol Accelerator is a highly efficient TCP/IP offload engine with a Gigabit Ethernet MAC. The core of Adaptec's SPA consists of a pipeline of Network Protocol Processors (NPP) which are designed to process TCP/IP protocol inside the ASIC. Adaptec's SPA relieves the host CPU from the compute-intensive TCP process, thereby providing a substantial amount of CPU cycles for other processes.
