Mac OS X Server v10.4 “Tiger” FR CD Mac 10users
The fifth major release of Apple’s award-winning server operating system, Mac OS X Server version 10.4 “Tiger” offers more than 200 new features and builds on more than 100 of the latest open source projects.
Important enhancements include 64-bit application support, access control lists (ACLs), portable home directories and all-new services like iChat Server, Weblog Server and Software Update Server. Mac OS X Server v10.4 “Tiger” brings even more Apple ease-of-use to server operations, with a Gateway Setup Assistant that lets small operations configure a secure network and innovative Xgrid software that helps scientists and researchers configure superpowered computational clusters.
64-bit Application Support
Mac OS X Server v10.4 delivers 64-bit memory addressing without compromising performance and support for 32-bit applications. 64-bit memory addressing lets you run processes that require more than 4GB of memory — ideal for high-performance server applications, computational engines and other command-line applications. For easy portability from other 64-bit UNIX-based systems, Mac OS X Server v10.4 supports the LP64 data model.
Access Control Lists (ACLs)
New support for access control lists (ACLs) provides flexible file system permissions that are fully compatible with the native file permissions of Windows 2003 and Windows XP — a capability unprecedented on any UNIX- or Linux-based platform. ACLs give administrators fine-grained control over server settings and permissions, protecting applications and data from unauthorized use and modification. In addition, all user-based services in Tiger Server support service access control lists (SACLs) — so it’s easy to specify which users and groups may access different services.
Certificate Management
The Server Admin application in Mac OS X Server v10.4 includes a new certificate management interface. It lists all certificates in one location, identifying the certificate authority, date of validation, and date of expiration. For each service that uses certificates, Server Admin displays a list of available certificates, making it easy to select and manage all of your server’s certificates.
Ethernet Link Aggregation
Also known as IEEE 802.3ad, Ethernet link aggregation ensures faster and more reliable network performance by configuring multiple network interfaces to behave as a single interface — with the same Ethernet address, the same IP address and the same host name. Ethernet link aggregation works on Xserve G5 or on systems with third-party Ethernet cards that support the IEEE 802.3ad standard.
