ts522 Brionvega radio
Once upon a time there was a grey and square world, all in black and white, and then the revolution of forms, the invention of colour arrived. Brionvega.
One of the most remarkable leaps of innovation and design in the great industrial, creative and cultural ferment that characterised Italy in the post war period and economic boom. The ts 502 portable radio receiver, the rr 126 radio-gram, the Algol portable TV, were products of a philosophy of construction that was unique and distinctive, based on reliability and ease of use, duration and beauty, technology and design, ergonomics and chromatic vivacity.
This is how the Brionvega brand first entered homes, then museums, and finally became myth.
It is an important heritage that requires on the one hand respect for the past, and on the other a vision propelled towards the future, as required by a world which is more and more technological.
This mission is the challenge of the BV company, which today makes the Brionvega spirit its own, to infuse new life into the great classic models of the brand. The form remains, unchanged in its beauty, its technological substance is updated. The myth continues.
Timeless form, the sound of your life
In 1895 Marconi invented the radio. In 1963 Brionvega reinvented it. The ts radio receiver was created, known across the whole world as the Brionvega ‘cube’. Design was raised to the nth power, in a radio that opens like a shell, created by the inventiveness of Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper. Constantly modernized in its technical contents, the portable radio, now called ts 522, has always kept its original and unmistakable form. So up-to-date that it could have been created today. So modern that it could be invented tomorrow. Beautiful like the sounds with which life is filled.
The forms, the names
The equation Brionvega=design arose thanks to the fruitful collaboration undertaken with great masters of design, able to reinterpret objects by inventing something completely different from the past. Marco Zanuso was one of these great designers, considered to be one of the masters of design of the 20th century, an eclectic genius, a curious spirit, he took an interest in all kinds of appliances: from cars to sewing machines, from lamps to televisions, from fans to telephones. Zanuso invented new solutions to give concrete form to objects which had already become archetypes. The ts 502 radio receiver is among these. Together with Richard Sapper, a German designer who has ranged from lamps to cars to computers, Marco Zanuso reinvented the radio dividing it and setting it up in two different but connected pieces. He created a radio-non-radio, capable of shaping and transforming itself, of being lively and vivacious. Whether on or off. Open or closed. Always.
Sound becomes object
What is there more intangible than a sound that hovers in the air? Certainly fashions, with their volatile illusions. The ‘cube’ transforms sound into a solid and concrete form, it becomes a point of reference, a declaration of a critical attitude towards the passing trends that surround us.
Portable thought
A radio that moves in space, that spreads just like sound. There where it is expected. According to Marco Zanuso “The user grabs the handle that renders the machine portable but, placing it on the surface of a table, on a piece of furniture, instinctively opens it just that little needed to form an acoustic cone that allows him to establish a connection with the object.” With its aura of sounds, voices, and lights, the ts 522 radio receiver creates an oasis in personal space. It becomes an ambience within the ambience. A home within the home.
The myth is always fresh
The ts 522 is now available in mint green. A new chromatic version, ready for a big comeback. Green was, in fact, standard for the ts 505 model, and even characterised the limited edition of the ts 502 in the 70s. Today, by bringing back the “cube” in a more vivid shade of green, Brionvega continues an extraordinary journey to rediscover and highlight a unique company experience. A tribute to the past, as lively as the future. A special series for the few. Obviously a must.
The myth is in the details
Two hinged cube-shaped bodies, made of ABS, washable, unchangeable. A light shell, made in two pieces that open symmetrically, available in the classical colours, bright orange, tomato red, snowy white and jet black. Poetic already in their names. A loudspeaker grid in aluminium alloy, a high-sensitivity extendable aerial. Tuning bands and memorized frequencies signalled by LED. Precision in the smallest details, a careful choice of materials. High technology, assembled by careful craftsman. These are values that last over time.
