This release of the Cisco Catalyst OS is the first of many software releases targeted solely at the Cisco Catalyst 4000 and Catalyst 4500 series of modular and fixed configuration switches. Please note that this release of Catalyst OS is not compatible with the Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series switches. To indicate this incompatibility the suffix GXL has been added to the release name as well as to the image name. This image is orderable under an 8.2(1)GLX part number.

<b>Hardware Supported</b>

The Cisco Catalyst 2948G-GE-TX Gigabit Ethernet Switch is a new fixed-configuration switch that provides Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for small and midsize networks. The Catalyst 2948G-GE-TX enhances network performance and productivity with the highest 10/100/1000BASE-T port density in a one-rack-unit form factor in the industry. The Catalyst 2948G-GE-TX is an affordable solution for delivering gigabit connectivity to the desktop over Category 5 copper cabling. This switch has 48 autosensing 10/100/1000BASE-T ports and 4 small form-factor pluggable (SFP) ports for a total of 52 Gigabit Ethernet ports.
