If a customer is using an application that uses ITU-standard protocols, such as X.400 Email and FTAM file transfer, then they will need ISO transport software to make the link to the X.25 network. The Eicon software offers Transport classes 0 and 2, which are common protocols used by ITU applications in the X.25 environment.
Four main objectives of ISO Transport are:
- End to end communications
- Independence from underlying communications protocol
- Selection of values for Quality of Service parameters representing characteristics such as throughput, transit delay, residual error rate and failure probability.
- Providing for the transparent transfer of Transport Service user-data and/or control information
There are two types of Transport Service:
a) a connection-mode service;
b) a connectionless-mode service;
