40GB Hard Disk, J240 This is a 40GB hard drive that features a 7200rpm spindle speed, an ATA/100 interface, a 2MB cache buffer, and an average seek time of 8.8ms. Doing well in speed tests isn’t the only thing ExcelStor has in mind for its products. The J240, like the other drives in the series, employs glass substrate disks which are sturdier than traditional disks, thus providing better reliability. To reduce noise, the J240 utilizes a Fluid Dynamic Bearing (FDB) motor and a Voice Coil Motor (VCM) damper, keeping the operating noise to a maximum of 3.7-bels.
