UTM 2100 Appliance. License 100 User Unified threat management systems combine very different security systems on a single platform and thus provide security for the entire network with just a single system at a single central point. What is more, they do so without losing the flexibility of conventional security systems. The individual security components can be used, but do not need to be. The rapid breakthrough of these systems is due, among other things, to the system consolidation that has taken place and the potential it has opened up for cutting both investment and running costs.

A unified threat management system must include a combination of firewall, network intrusion prevention system and gateway virus scanner. Funkwerk UTM offers much more than this, however, and also integrates a complete VPN gateway, a spam filter and an application level gateway. User authentication both in-band and out-of-band is achieved by a local user database and interfaces to Radius and LDAP. Funkwerk UTM is also equipped with a dedicated certificate server for simplifying the certificate management process.

The Funkwerk UTM system is generally employed at the gateway to the Internet, where it controls incoming and outgoing data traffic in real time. Its coordinated components allow it to identify and block viruses, network-based worms, file-based worms, trojans, spam mail, policy violations, DoS attacks, backdoor attacks and other hacker attacks. Funkwerk UTM thus provides complete gateway security. An additional firewall, additional gateway virus protection, additional VPN gateway or additional spam filter are no longer required

Stateful Inspection Firewall and Application Level Gateway The Funkwerk UTM Multi-Inspection Firewall is the first checkpoint for all data traffic. Just like a dependable doorman, the firewall only enables data you really want to pass unhindered. It monitors all data packets between the internal network and external networks that are to be protected. The firewall rules can be configured easily and without considerable effort, as can all functions of Funkwerk UTM. The firewall can be put into operation within a very short time to begin its monitoring duties. If required, users can also be authenticated by means of local passwords, LDAP or Radius, both in-band and out-of-band.

Intrusion Prevention The Funkwerk UTM intrusion prevention system uses over 6000 rules and signatures to identify attacks. The system actively intervenes in the data stream and blocks attacks before they can infiltrate the network. A special Auto-Prevention function simplifies configuration and thereby enables rules and rule groups to be quickly adapted to different security needs in the protected systems. Only Funkwerk UTM products have an Auto-Prevention function, and the automatic rule update means that they are protected against attacks more quickly than other systems.

VPN Gateway Companies need to communicate, and this may involve field offices, branches, field staff or home-office workers. This communication must be encrypted and authenticated. The integrity, authenticity, confidentiality and availability of the transmitted data must be safeguarded at all costs. Funkwerk UTM supports PPTP, IPSec, and L2TP as tunnel protocol. DES, 3DES, AES, Blowfish, Twofish, Serpent and Cast are employed as encryption algorithms. The Multi Inspection Firewall and Intrusion Prevention system can be employed in every tunnel. Certificates can be used for authentication purposes. These can be generated easily by the dedicated Funkwerk UTM certification centre.

Virus Scanner The security of corporate networks is being threatened increasingly by dangerous viruses. There are more and more viruses in circulation and new variations of these are occurring increasingly frequently. The cost to businesses is enormous and may even threaten their very existence. Funkwerk UTM filters infected files from HTTP, FTP, SMTP and POP3 connections as early as the gateway and thereby prevents them from reaching the target systems.

Spam Filter One of the most common and most annoying threats from the Internet is spam. Estimates suggest that between 40% and 80% of all e-mails landing in users’ in-boxes are spam. The resulting costs to business through lost productivity are substantial.
