1GB SDRAM Memory
1GB SDRAM technology offers fast, high-bandwidth memory that is designed, engineered and tested to work with high-performance chipsets and processors. SDRAM memory synchronises with the system clock that controls the CPU. This synchronisation reduces access time delays and improves overall processor efficiency. Exclusive to the xSeries x440 server, this option, when used in a normal four-way parallel interleaving system by combining four SDRAM DIMMs on each memory bank, provides up to 3.2GB/sec bandwidth for each memory access. This 1GB SDRAM option on the x440 goes one step further and combines cache line interleaving across two separate four-way parallel interleaves to provide up to 6.4GB/sec memory bandwidth for each processor complex. When eight SDRAM DIMMs are properly installed in the x440, each of the two four-way parallel banks can be accessed concurrently for a total of up to 6.4GB/sec of memory bandwidth. In addition, SDRAM at this stage of the development cycle is less expensive than the new double data rate (DDR) memory, making this a more economical memory subsystem installation choice.
