Housing for Canon Powershot SX200 IS Digital Camera
The Ikelite compact digital housing is molded of corrosion free, virtually indestructible clear polycarbonate. An unobstructed view of the main o-ring provides assurance that the case is sealed properly. Its heavy duty walls allow it to operate safely to 200ft (60m).
All functions of the camera are accessible through the housing. A flash diffuser is included to aid in improving lighting quality when the camera's built-in flash is used to illuminate subjects underwater. The camera's flash is relatively weak for underwater use and partially blocked by the housing's port. Effective use is limited to macro photography at a distance of less than 2 feet (0.6m). For best results an external strobe is recommended.
Optional color correcting filters replace some of the reds and more natural tones that would otherwise be lost. Available as #6441.46 for tropical blue water and #6441.86 for green water. Filters are effective in shallow, sunny conditions depending on water clarity. For optimum results use in combination with manual white balance (see camera user guide for information on setting custom white balance).
The housing's lens port accepts the optional WD-4 Wide Angle Conversion Dome. The WD-4 corrects for refractive magnification to give the camera's full angle of coverage underwater. The conversion dome may be removed and replaced underwater and requires no modification to the housing's standard port.
Port adapter #9306.82 (MSRP $50) slides over the front of the lens port and allows for the attachment of 67mm threaded macro lenses from Inon and Epoque. The adapter may be removed and replaced underwater and requires no modification to the housing's standard lens port. Macro lens not available for purchase through Ikelite. The camera's extremely long zoom range prevents the effective attachment of external wide angle conversion lenses.
For optimum lighting underwater an optional external strobe (flash) is recommended. Ikelite strobes are brighter, recycle faster and offer wider coverage than the camera's flash. Being farther from the camera lens, the strobe aids in reducing the illumination of particles in the water which helps to eliminate backscatter. Use the AutoFlash AF35 for easy automatic exposure. Or add an optional DS Substrobe with EV Manual Controller for more power and wider angle of coverage.
