Most chalk reels have solid spools, which causes the chalk reel to jam when chalk gets lodged between the spool and the back of the housing. IRWIN® chalk reels have a “chalk chopper”, grinding the chalk as you wind the line into the reel lessening clumping and minimizing down-time. This new spool is standard on all IRWIN® chalk reels.
