Pokemon - Dx Base Sinnoh Region Pokémon started life as the brainchild of Nintendo employee and games designer, Satoshi Tajiri. Tajiri invented the Pokémon game based on his own childhood memories of bug collecting. Being a big fan of Science Fiction he often would imagined what it would be like for his captured bugs to battle each other like the creatures and monsters in his favourite movies…

The original game idea, which would come into full fruition in 1996 for the Game boy, took Satoshi Tajiri six years to develop. Its intricate plots and character traits where scrutinized over and over again until Tajiri was satisfied he had captured the essence of his original idea.

When launched in 1996, the Pokémon game received an overwhelming response in Japan; spurring the creation of a Japanese Pokémon television series and the Japanese Pokémon collectible trading card game. Globally, the phenomenon of Pokémon has its roots in USA where it was released in 1998 for the original Red and Blue Game Boy games. Subsequently, with the release of the English-version trading cards and a television series - Pokémon went straight to the top - ranked No. 1 by western children aged 2 to 11.

With an ever increasing snowball of popularity Warner Brothers released the first three big screen animated Pokémon feature films in North America: "Pokémon: The First Movie - 1999", "Pokémon: The Movie - 2000", and "Pokémon 3: The Movie - 2001".

In today’s market place, Pokémon continues to grow in all areas; remaining an outstanding entertainment and retail property in the international market place. This success can be put down to the Pokémon’s incredible appeal to children from all cultures and across sex and age barriers. Even though the Pokémon originally had adolescent boys as its main brand target, its popularity soon spread to include girls and boys of all ages…even down to infants and pre-schooler’s. Best summed up by Galil Tilden, Nintendo’s Vice President, "Pokémon is much more than a phenomenon – It’s now a children’s entertainment staple here in America and globally… From the video games, to the toys, to the TV series, Pokémon’s staying power is evident in its multifaceted appeal to its broad fan base."
