THE OMEGA SEAMASTER PLANET OCEAN COLLECTION
The true legends of underwater exploration wore OMEGA dive watches. William Beebe, the marine biologist and explorer, Commander Yves Le Prieur, the inventor of scuba, Jacques Cousteau and free-diver Jacques Mayol all sported Seamasters. It was in their spirit that we created the Seamaster Planet Ocean collection. It pays homage to our dive watch heritage and has already become a modern classic.
DEEP SEA VISIBILITY
The applied indexes on the dials are coated with white Super-LumiNova emitting a blue light, as does the dot on the diving bezel. This feature is particularly attractive for divers who can easily keep track of their elapsed time at a glance. Back on dry land it also works wonderfully well after dark.
STYLE AND CO-AXIAL TECHNOLOGY
Planet Ocean watches are powered by OMEGA’s revolutionary Co-Axial movements, technological marvels that offer a reborn sense of exclusivity embraced by today's adventurous seafarers and aquanauts. These watches blur the boundaries between fashion and functionality.
HELIUM ESCAPE VALVE
The Planet Ocean is equipped with a helium escape valve, which allows helium to escape from inside the watch when it is worn by divers in pressure chambers. Breathing gases in diving bells can contain helium, with atoms so small that they can find their way inside a watch. When the diver resurfaces, the pressure difference between these trapped gases and the external environment could damage the watch. The helium escape valve prevents this from happening.
THE COLOURS OF YOUR PLANET OCEAN
When the OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean was launched in 2005, the predominant colour was black, but motivated by feedback from divers and inspired by the amazing hues of the ocean, OMEGA also introduced a range of watches that combined classic black with bright orange, white and ocean blue.
RESISTANCE TO SHOCK AND MAGNETISM
Diving is filled with potentially unforeseen hazards, especially when exploring caves, shipwrecks and reefs where wristwatches can easily be exposed to magnetism or shock. To prevent damage the Planet Ocean features a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and an Si14 silicon balance spring that improves resistance to shock and magnetism and unparalleled reliability.
WHEN SIZE MATTERS
Not all wrists are created equal so the Planet Ocean has been created in cases of 43.5mm and 45.5 mm. There is also a 37.5mm model that has found particular favour among the women who wear the Planet Ocean.
