Ceiling Speaker Dual Voice Coil OSD Audio ICE620TT
Sold as a single speaker, the ICE620TT in-ceiling speaker offers high performance at a surprisingly affordable price. Every model uses components usually found only in architectural speakers costing considerably more. Rated at 125W power handling, the ICE620TT includes a 6 1/2" polypropylene woofer with dual voice coil and two 5/8" center mounted tweeters.
What Is a Dual Voice Coil Ceiling Speaker?
A Dual Voice Coil (DVC) Ceiling Speaker uses a special voice coil cone design that allows both channels of a stereo system to drive one cone. Sounds complicated but it's not. Basically, a DVC speaker plays both right and left channels through one speaker cone. You get both channels but without the acoustic separation that happens with two speakers. There are places like bathrooms, closets or hallways that just can’t accommodate multiple speakers so a DVC speaker solves the problem and produces great sound.
What Type of Cable Should I Use?
Wiring is not included with in-ceiling speakers so you will have to purchase some. While wiring requirements will depend on your local building codes, OSD Audio offers CL3/FT4 cable that is UL (fire) rated for all residential and most commercial in-wall and in-ceiling applications. (The exception is you cannot run this cable in heating or cooling ducts in commercial applications.) This cable includes a heavy-duty outer jacket approved for in-wall/in-ceiling installation. The high quality plastic jacket is also very flexible so it's easy to run the wires inside the wall.
