The Panasonic BD-R disc uses a new inorganic phase-change recording material that gives fast 6x recording speeds ( up to 216 Mbps ), so, in order to record 20GB of data, for example, it takes 27 minutes with a 16x DVD-R disc (not including the time required for changing disks), whereas it takes a mere 14 minutes with the 6x BD-R. This makes it ideal for applications that involve large amounts of data, such as storing high definition video or backing up your hard drive. Maximum transfer speed for DVDs ( normal speed ) is 11.08Mbps.
A new advancement in Panasonic's history of expertise in phase-change technology has achieved broad power margins, even at 6x high-speed recording. It is compatible with the different laser power characteristics of a wide range of drives, ensuring stable and reliable recording and playback performance.
To realize high-speed recording, Panasonic has employed new proprietary technology in metal molds and the cover layer forming process, as well as high-precision stamping technology. This translates to a disc with a high degree of surface flatness, and less susceptibility to warpage caused by sudden changes in temperature or humidity. In addition, the recording surface has been equipped with precision signal grooves. These innovations combine to achieve unsurpassed servo characteristics that enable stable recording and playback performance, even at the maximum 6x speed.
The Panasonic BD-R discs provide excellent durability, making it highly resistant to damage from repeated playback as well as highly reliable for long-term storage.
Unique hard coating protection technology makes the surface extremely scratch-resistant. A newly developed film forming technology dramatically reduces dust generated in the sputtering process.This enables ultra-low error rates to be achieved, resulting in more reliable Blu-ray Disc recording.
