DAB, DAB+, FM, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, RDS, OLED, 3.6kg With DAB/FM and Internet Radio tuners built in, the new R2 is capable of receiving radio stations globally and with DAB+ also included, the new R2 can be used in countries such as Australia and Germany where this updated format is now being used. DAB+ also ensures that the new R2 is ready for additional stations in the UK, which are planned for 2016.

Programme and set-up information are displayed with crystal clear clarity on the latest technology OLED (organic light emitting diode) display. The really good thing about this new display is that it retains its vivid clarity at any viewing angle and the display brightness can be adjusted to suit your requirements, both in active and standby modes.

The new R2 features aptX® audio technology that partners with Bluetooth® so you can stream directly from compatible devices to R2 with audio quality virtually indistinguishable from a wired connection. An increasing number of devices are now available with aptX®, but with or without, sound quality over Bluetooth with R2 is impressive.

On the rear panel you’ll find a pair of high quality phono sockets for the second switchable line input. These sockets are ideal for connection to the audio/headphone output of most flat panel TVs and played through the new R2 you’ll notice a radical improvement in sound quality, making films and viewing all the more enjoyable.

Also on the rear panel is a multi-use USB socket. At its simplest, it’s a charging port so you can conveniently charge your smartphone, but moreover it’s also a playback port which allows you to connect a USB memory stick or portable hard drive loaded with your favourite music.

The new R2 will make any bedroom look and sound better and with customisable twin alarms you’ll be woken from your slumbers with quality sound exactly how and when you want. Also included is an adjustable snooze and sleep timer so you can doze in a similar fashion.

The new R2 is Spotify Connect ready and with a Spotify Premium account you can select R2 as your playback device and then pause or skip tunes using the controls on R2. Even if R2 is turned off, when next turned on, simply by pressing the play button your music will resume from where it last finished and this will happen even if your phone/tablet or computer is switched off. With access to over 20 million songs, with a Spotify Premium account, you’ll be discovering uninterrupted new music and enjoying old favourites, everyday.

On the front panel a headphone output is provided along with a switchable line input allowing easy connection of auxiliary audio devices. A useful function of the headphone output is that the volume is ‘remembered’ independently from the main speaker volume, so when headphones are unplugged the volume reverts to the last used level.

In our opinion, products covered in buttons look ugly and our trademark RotoDial control system provides a sophisticated and elegant solution. For the new R2 we’ve evolved our RotoDial concept further so it looks and feels even better and with fewer buttons is even more intuitive to operate.

The new R2 allows you to enjoy your entire music collection streamed wirelessly from storage devices or PCs connected to your home network. It supports a variety of audio codec’s including WMA, AAC, FLAC, MP3, MP2 and Real Audio. Audio streaming requires a DLNA server or PC/Mac running DLNA certified software.

The new R2 enclosure is handcrafted from a careful selection of wood, metals and man-made materials. The wooden cabinet we know from our years designing loudspeakers gives the best sound quality and clad in a choice of luxurious walnut or our new modern soft white and soft black lacquers, has the added benefit that it looks striking in combination with the cool steel front panel and feels warm and natural to touch.

Operating the new R2 with our new RotoDial control is a joy, but also included is a stylish compact remote which allows you to control and set all R2 functions from the comfort of your chair or bed.
