The Samyang 800mm MC IF f/8 Mirror lens is a super telephoto, manual focus fixed f/8 aperture reflex lens, designed primarily for amateur and enthusiasts.
This 800mm version is constructed especially for extreme telephoto applications, yet is still relatively compact at 145 mm long, and lightweight at around 950g. The Samyang 800mm features a relatively bright, fixed f8 aperture for its size and extreme focal length.
Suitable for photographing nature, astro-photography, spy / observational photography or any situation where a low priced, ultra long telephoto is required.
The construction of the Samyang 800mm mirror lens combines high quality metal exterior, styled in black and white, and great optical to price performance. The optics feature Multi-coated (MC) coatings ensuring high light transmission.
This is a manual focus lens, of internal focusing (IF) design. Due to the very narrow depth of field with such a long focal length it is recommended to focus with live-view to achieve accurate focus where possible. As with all long telephoto lenses a combination of sturdy camera support / substantial tripod, good technique, fast shutter speed, and use of remote / mirror lock up is recommended to avoid camera shake to achieve the best results.
Suitable for full frame and cropped sensors, on a 1.5x cropped sensor such as Nikon will yield a 1200mm focal length equivalent, or 1280mm on 1.6x cropped DSLRs such as Canon EOS digital series of cropped sensor.
There is a optional 2x tele-converter (available separately) increasing the actual focal length to 1600mm. (giving over 2500mm on a Canon 1.6x cropped sensor). However it is worth noting that using any converter on any lens there will a loss of quality and light transmission (of 2 or more effective EV stops). Quality wise it is always preferable if you can get close to the subject, but if this is not possible a converter may be an option and provides extreme telephoto.
The Samyang 800mm MC IF f/8 can be also used as a spotting scope, fieldscope, telescope with use of an optional eyepiece (available separately).
The Samyang Mirror lenses can be mounted to most digital or film SLR bodies by way of low cost T2 universal adapter mounts (available separately). T2 universal mounts are available to mount to most systems, including Canon, Nikon, Sony A mount / Konica Minolta, Pentax, 4/3 etc, including Sony E-Mount T2 adapters.
