With the release of the 5th generation, the Sony AIT format has reached its 10-year anniversary.
AIT-5 achieves the original Sony goal to introduce a new generation every 2 years; ensuring AIT is one of the only tape formats in the industry that has delivered against its published roadmap.

Integrate the new AIT-5 into a Sony LIB162 library and an incredible 6.4TB capacity is possible in only 2U size. With read & write backwards compatibility with AIT-3, AIT-3Ex and AIT-4 generations, AIT-5 also is the ideal drive for the current AIT user with fast growing data storage needs. And through the use of Write-Once-Read-Many (WORM) media, AIT-5 also helps facilitate compliance with European data retention regulations too.

Easy management and maintenance

System set-up and monitoring can be carried out easily from a web browser on a client PC or from the front panel. The tape cartridges are controlled at high speed with supreme reliability thanks to the R-MIC reader installed by default in the AIT tape drives, facilitating faster recovery in the event of a system crash.

The LIB162 comes equipped with a hot swap function which enables the built-in tape drive to be installed and removed without stopping the system, ensuring replacement while the power to the server remains on. The tape drives can be replaced to upgrade the library to a new generation of the AIT format, for maintenance, or for system expansion by adding a second drive.
