Powerful Range and Throughput Performance for 5GHz Networks
Ubiquiti Networks announces hi-power SuperRange2 and SuperRange5 mini-PCI modules
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. is now shipping “Super Range 2” (SR2) and “Super Range 5” (SR5), 400mW 802.11b/g and 802.11a mini-PCI cards featuring enhanced sensitivity, superior thermal performance, and low loss rugged MMCX antenna connectors. Designed for outdoor wireless, the cards provide link budget improvements of up to 20dB over standard 802.11 mini-pci solutions.
The introduction of the SR2 and SR5 cards solve the problem of increasing 802.11 based outdoor wireless system performance without the increased system complexity, legal questions, added spurious emissions, and degraded receiver performance that accompany use of external bi-directional amplifiers.
The 802.11b/g 2.4 GHz SR2 has been adopted by OEMS, telecom carriers, and WISP’s worldwide for mesh networking and municipal wi-fi hot zone deployments. They provide the best solution on the market for expanding the coverage area and improving system performance of wide area wi-fi network deployments.
Meanwhile, the SR5 802.11a card has been a breakthrough for the point-to-point wireless industry. With 400mW of output power and enhanced sensitivity throughout the 5475-5850 MHz bands, the SR5 provides revolutionary performance for improving range, throughput, and reliability of point-to-point wireless links throughout the world.
The design of the SR2 and SR5 cards are unlike any other 802.11 mini-PCI card on the market. Both have one u.Fl antenna connector in addition to a secondary MMCX connector that allows for improved mechanical stability and the use of higher quality, lower loss antenna cables. An optional SMA connector is also available for further performance increase. In addition, the cards are manufactured using high performance PCB material (superior to that of commoditized 802.11 products) for improved RF performance and include a customized modular heat-sink for improved thermal performance.
Both cards are fully supported by standard Atheros drivers and include Atheros AR5004 features such as adaptive radio technology, data compression, fast frames, extended range (XR), and country code selection. They work seamlessly with single board computer platforms including WRAP, Soekris, Mikrotik, and many more.
