E 660 Loudspeaker Floorstand The arc-shaped cabinets aren’t just visually elegant - together with internal bracings this shape also enhances the rigidity of the design, thus preventing undesirable vibrations from colouring the sound. The cabinet sides are made using the same technique used for the D 5 series, cutting longitudinal grooves in the MDF board to shape the cabinet.

What’s more, the arc shape damps "standing waves" and so prevents sound waves from being reflected back to the drivers – that way distortion/colouration is reduced to a minimum. The two floorstanders are equipped with a base with integrated shock absorbers that further enhances bass reproduction.

The E 660 is a very slim Scandinavian designed floorstander intended to be used as either a front speaker in a home cinema system or as a stereo speaker.

The drive units are unique in this category of products: they use DTT (Decoupled Tweeter Technology) and a fibreglass-glue compound diaphragm in the midrange/woofer.

Gold plated binding posts
To ensure loss-less connection, the terminals are equipped with goldplated binding posts, accepting stripped wire as well as spades, pins etc.
DTT (Decoupled Tweeter Technology)
One of the biggest challenges when designing speakers is preventing unwanted cabinet vibrations from clouding or colouring the sound. High frequencies are particularly susceptible so we came up with the first ingenious solution… Decoupled Tweeter Technology (DTT). By decoupling the tweeter from the rest of the loudspeaker, vibrations transmitted from the front baffle to the tweeter are reduced by more than 20 dB resulting in an uncommonly detailed and realistic reproduction of high frequencies. Firstly the tweeter is decoupled from the aluminium front baffle using a special rubber compound called EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) which has extremely good acoustical properties. Secondly the aluminium front baffle is not just screwed onto the wooden front baffle but mounted using natural rubber rawlplugs which further prevents vibrations being transmitted.
Electronic overload protection
An electronic PTC resistor automatically limits power to the loudspeaker if it becomes overloaded.When the volume is turned down again, the resistor cools down and the sound is restored to its normal level.
Fibre-glass cone midrange and woofer
The midrange and woofer drive units used in the E 6 series feature diaphragms made of a special fibre-glass/ glue compound.This material helps to control and distribute wave modes evenly, thereby ensuring minimal coloration and a very transparent midrange reproduction. The inverted dust cap together with the natural rubber surround linearises frequency response even further.
Neodymium loudspeaker units
Neodymium is a powerful magnetic material – 10 times more powerful than a normal magnet. Therefore the magnet can be reduced in size, and be placed inside the voice coil of the loudspeaker unit, allowing the magnetic force to be concentrated around the voice coil – exactly where it is needed. Another benefit of the compact magnet is that is does not take up space inside the speaker cabinet, an especially important consideration with compact speakers
