NumberNine TITAN, L, 312 g
NumberNine TITAN The best MTB pedal, we have ever heard of.
Really, it should cost twice as much. Our motto was not to shy away from any costs or travails and build the strongest and lightest pedal with the best possible degree of efficiency. The original 2009 NumberNine pedal with adjustable conical bearings, and the revised 4 cartridge bearing NumberNine Custom, are still serving reliably in harsh riding conditions, with not one pedal failure to date. An extremely high standard has been set for the new even lighter NumberNine Titan, which is even stronger and yet close to 30% lighter still. After numerous prototypes, and finally even new revised internal testing standards for the axles, bearings, pedal body and even for the pins, it is finally achieved: we are proud to present a previously unachieved standard in pedals.
100% roller bearings and nothing else
Understanding and using the laws of physics: roller bearings have a much lower coefficient of friction than friction bearings, especially under load. This becomes even more evident when radial friction bushings inherent in the design of friction bearings become contaminated with the grit of everyday use. This is why we use only the finest precision cartridge bearings at all three bearing locations. Simply put, for you as a rider, this means: you have pedals with the least possible power loss. The harder you pedal, the greater the performance output advantage.
If you build strong, you can build light weight.
The lightest fully ball bearing equipped pedal: Machined from one piece of 7075 T6 aluminium instead of the so often used and easily anodised 6061 aluminium. By the way the 6061 aluminium can also be recognised without a materials lab, simply by the variety of bright colours on offer. In contrast, high strength alloys always show a slight colour influence by their specific naturally occurring alloying elements. This will vary the appearance of each individual pedal as can be seen with the silver-grey finished of the NumberNine Titan pedal. All ribs and cross members are explicitly designed as structural load bearing members without any cut-outs or holes or other similar fashionable attributes. A modified and improved body profile allows the use of a hollow, high strength Titanium axle. High load axial impacts are absorbed by an especially tough end-stop instead of by the bearings. The result: sensationally light at 288g (size M incl. 56 pins) … and rated at over 500kg ultimate load per pedal!
