Gateway 8950 The PlugLAN 8950 Gateway from Asoka® is an advanced Powerline Communications gateway that transforms existing electrical wires in a commercial building into a high-performance data network, delivering broadband services at up to 85 Mbps. The 8950 Gateway allows resellers, integrators, and service providers to add value by delivering high-bandwidth services, including High-Speed Internet Access (HSIA) and Voice over IP (VoIP) to every electrical outlet within a hotel, office or multi-dwelling unit (MDU) without pulling new wiring or disrupting electrical service.

Using the PlugLAN 8950
To provide maximum power and flexibility, two deployment options are available,– one for single-meter locations such as hotels or offices, and one for locations with multiple meters, like apartment buildings

- Single-meter configuration – For hotels, offices, or other environments where all network users exist behind a single electrical meter, use the 8950 Gateway’s built-in direct injection capabilities to inject broadband services directly into a three-phase electrical environment.

- Multiple-meter configuration – Ideal for apartments or other MDU/MTUs where users exist behind separate electrical meters, this configuration uses Asoka’s innovative PlugLAN SmartClip Injection Kit (PL1300) for signal injection into the electrical wires. This kit uses a noninvasive connector that attaches near each individual meter to inject the Internet signal without disrupting electrical service or compromising wiring.

With the PlugLAN 8950
Built specifically for resellers and providers serving commercial and MDU/MTU markets, the 8950 Gateway provides flexible deployment options, easy management, and maximum scalability.

SmartClip Signal Injection
Each 8950 Gateway can natively support two SmartClip signal injection kits through its on-board coaxial connection. Each SmartClip Kit is able to inject signal into eight two-phase meters, providing network connectivity for up to 16 separate meters.

Gateway Expansion Adapter
For installations with more than 16 meters, Asoka offers the PlugLAN Gateway Expansion Adapter, which is capable of driving up to two additional SmartClip kits (supporting another 16 meters). Each Expansion Adapter connects to the 8950 Gateway through a port on the gateway’s Ethernet switch. The 8950 Gateway is capable of supporting a total of 3 Expansion Adapters (48 additional meters) in addition to the 16 meters natively supported by the gateway providing a total of 64 separate two-phase meters.
