At the age of 18, Steve was accepted to study at the prestigious Pasadena Art Centre College of Design, which is famous for its studies on car design.
It was during this time he quickly discovered that consumer product design was much more exciting than designing cars.
Car design is mostly about styling and making things fit around the basic concept of a car. With consumer products, however, Steve found that you can design completely new products with new and revolutionary concepts that never existed before.
Steve moved to Denmark in 1982 and worked as an in-house designer for Bang & Olufsen. In 1988, he established his own design studio in Denmark, and later in Hamburg, Germany.
Today, Steve McGugan has achieved world fame for his designs with Bang & Olufsen, Novo Nordisk, Georg Jensen and others, and received more than 17 international product design awards,
among which the German red-dot and iF awards, Japanese G prize, Czech Design, Forma Finlandia and the Danish Design Prize.
