Compression
Because it uses JPEG 2000 compression, it’s extremely efficient when encoding the signal for transmitting over a network without any visible loss of quality. This way, you’re assured every single frame is transmitted without any visible loss of quality for maximizing network bandwidth and clear rendering of video.

Low Latency
Plus, it offers very low latency. Delay is less than three frames*, which makes it ideal for streaming live video fast in broadcast production, medical imaging, military, and command and control room applications.

Transmission Protocolls
The solution uses existing standards-based Ethernet technology and IP protocols to digitally transmit video (as well as multichannel audio if used with the HDMI I/O card) at maximum Ethernet distances of 100 m. To go farther, simply add a network switch and enable unlimited distances using the Internet.

Architecture
In most applications, you will need to order two VX-HDV-IP base units with one configured as an encoder and the other as a decoder**. When set up to work as an encoder, the base unit compresses the HD video source signal and transmits it over an IP network via a Gigabit Ethernet connection. The second base unit, configured as a decoder, captures the data from an IP network, decompresses it, and plays it back in its original form as HD video.

And, as long as you have suitable LAN/WAN bandwidth, the quality of the source video is preserved. Use the two HD-over-IP Encoder/Decoders to unicast video to one screen, or use three or more units to multicast to multiple screens on a LAN.

Flexible modular video interfaces
For the video interfaces, choose 3G-SDI or DVI-I/HDMI I/O Cards (VX-HDV-IP-SDI or VX-HDV-IP-HDMI). You can even mix interfaces within the same installation, connecting a 3G-SDI source on the encoder side and an HDMI device on the decoder side (each I/O card has video in and video out ports).

The 3G-SDI I/O Card provides high-quality video input and output on 75-ohm BNC coax connectors. It also has a BNC coax connector for video loopback. Use it for professional video and broadcast engineering applications. For example, you can plug a 3G-SDI camera into the encoder with the 3G-SDI card and enable playback on a remote HDMI display connected to the HDMI card installed in the decoder unit.

The DVI-I/HDMI I/O Card provides high-quality video input and output on DVI-I connectors, and HDMI (adapter included). Fully HDCP compatible. It allows transmission of encrypted content.
It also supports the extension of HDMI multichannel audio for multimedia connections. The card can also be used to receive VGA video (but it does not transmit VGA video).
It’s particularly ideal for TV studio, video post-production, command and control, or any number of AV applications where you want to use an Ethernet network to extend from a DVI or an HDMI video source—including a Blu-ray player—to a digital HD screen with DVI or HDMI input.

Simple to set up and configure
No complicated configuration or reconfiguration is required. An Auto Stream function enables video streaming to start as soon as you connect the VX-HDV-IP boxes. Connections between units are defined using simple IP addressing via a browser-based management interface, so reconfiguring video streams is easy. You can also allocate an IP address from a network by activating DHCP.

Additionally, the HD-over-IP Encoder/Decoder has two USB 2.0 interfaces for extending USB data along with video to a remote site. Use the ports to link a remote USB keyboard/mouse to the host system in a KVM control application. Each VX-HDV-IP unit can be configured as a host or as a target USB device.

Option to set up backup power
The VX-HDV-IP features dual 12-VDC (13W) power inputs on a terminal block for redundant power (via the separately ordered VX-HDV-IP-PSU unit[s]). Most users will need just a single PSU for each HD-over-IP Encoder/Decoder base unit in use (locally and remotely), unless they require backup power through a second power supply. A switch contact on the terminal block monitors both power inputs and closes to prevent any power failure, for example, to a control system.
